IATA A154 Explained

IATA Special Provision A154 prohibits the air transport of damaged or defective lithium and sodium-ion cells and batteries that could present a safety risk during transport. This includes batteries that have the potential to generate excessive heat, catch fire, or short circuit.   When Does A154 Apply? Special Provision A154 applies to: Defective lithium or sodium-ion batteries being returned to a manufacturer. Leaking or venting batteries. Batteries that have suffered physical or mechanical damage. Batteries that cannot be assessed as safe before transport.
