IATA Special Provision A26 explains when refrigerating machines, including air conditioning units and refrigeration equipment, are not subject to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
This provision applies to equipment designed to keep food or other products at a low temperature using a refrigerant gas or ammonia solution.
When Does A26 Apply?
Refrigerating machines are Not Restricted when they contain:
Less than 12 kg of a Division 2.2 (non-flammable, non-toxic) gas, or
Less than 12 litres of ammonia solution (UN 2672).
If either of these limits is exceeded, the equipment may be fully subject to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and additional packaging, marking, labelling, and documentation requirements may apply.
